Injection of hyaluronic acids (HAs) as fillers is one of the fastest growing non-surgical aesthetic procedures in the United States. These fillers smooth wrinkles and folds around the mouth and nose and can be used to add volume to the cheeks, temples, lower face and lips, ultimately giving you a more youthful and rested appearance. One treatment produces results that can last 6 to 24 months. Sometimes, more than one injection session is required to achieve optimal results. Your doctor will determine which of these fillers would be most appropriate for you.
These HA fillers can also be injected into the back of the hand to fill in the sunken areas and restore the youthful appearance of the hand.
-Add another question at the end: Can I really have Juvederm injected into my hand?
Yes, Juvederm is very effective at filling in the hollows that can appear as your hands get older. As hands age, the tendons and vasculature/veins become more prominent as the support structure in the deeper layers of the skin is lost. HA fillers will replace this lost volume and smooth out the back of the hand. This procedure combined with lasers to fade brown spots will dramatically improve the appearance of an aging hand. Side effects are similar to HA filler injection on the face: pain, bruising, and swelling.

How long does Juvederm last?
Juvederm lasts for approximately 6 to 12 months. The product undergoes isovolumic degradation, meaning that as Juvederm is broken down in the skin, the hyaluronic acid particles attract more water, allowing consistent wrinkle correction over the life of the filler.
What are the side effects of Juvederm?
Unlike the earlier injectable collagen, there is no need for an allergy test. Juvederm is extremely safe and easy to use and will give you a natural looking result. Mild swelling and bruising are the most common side effects following injection. Some areas of the face tend to swell and bruise more than others such as the lower eyelids and lips. Any more serious and rare adverse events such as a persistent bump is reversible. It can be easily treated with a small shot of an enzyme, hyaluronidase, that degrades the filler.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are now available pre-mixed with local anesthetic, increasing comfort during injection. Certain areas of the face such as the lips are more sensitive than others. We recommend arriving early to your filler appoint for local numbing cream placement to increase your comfort level.
