Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or Limelight is a broad-band light source used to revitalize the skin and reverse photodamage. It is considered a “photofacial.” Short bursts of light target brown and red discoloration in the skin. This is a noninvasive gentle and fast way to fade sun spots, remove broken blood vessels, improve skin texture, and reduce redness. IPL can treat most areas of photodamage on the body including the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, and legs. It is also used to improve rosacea and melasma. You will see significant improvement after one session! More severe photo damage and melasma may require a series of 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Are there any side effects?

The device uses a cool tip to increase comfort during treatment. Post procedural cooling with ice packs and compresses help decrease any redness and swelling which typically resolve in minutes to several hours. Brown spots turn dark immediately and become flaky and fall off over the next 1-2 weeks. Broken blood vessels slowly recede over a period of weeks. Please book your treatment when you have absolutely no tan as the treatment will be safer and more effective. Brown spots that have been removed by the IPL will recur with sun exposure so please discuss sun avoidance and sunscreen with your doctor or one of our aestheticians.
